Online Therapy in Florida

Secure video sessions with a licensed therapist, from anywhere in the state. Anxiety, trauma, EMDR, self-esteem, and relationships. Insurance accepted, with evening and weekend times available.

What online therapy actually is

Online therapy is the same work as traditional therapy, delivered by secure video instead of in a waiting room. You meet with the same licensed clinician every session, for the same fifty minutes, working on the same things. The only part that changes is that you do not have to drive anywhere.

I am Crystal Riley, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 11 years of experience, and my practice is fully online. That is not a pandemic leftover or a temporary arrangement. It is a deliberate choice, because for most of the people I work with it is the difference between going to therapy and meaning to go to therapy.

Does online therapy work?

This is the question almost everyone asks, and it deserves a straight answer. Research on telehealth for anxiety, depression, and trauma has repeatedly found outcomes comparable to in-person care. In practice, the things that predict whether therapy helps are the relationship with your therapist and whether you actually keep going. Video does not get in the way of either one.

What I see clinically is that some people do better online. Being in your own space can lower the barrier to saying difficult things out loud. There is no lobby, no performance of walking in and walking out, no rushing across town afterward with your feelings still open. You can close the laptop and sit for a minute.

What online therapy can help with

Anxiety and overthinking

Worry that will not switch off, 2am replays, and the physical symptoms that come with a nervous system stuck in high gear.

Trauma and PTSD

Old experiences that still shape how safe you feel today. I am EMDR trained, and EMDR works well over video.

Self-esteem and the inner critic

The voice that is far harsher with you than you would ever be with a friend.

Relationship patterns

Resentment that built quietly, feeling unseen, or repeating dynamics you swore you had left behind.

Women's issues

The mental load, people-pleasing, boundaries, and the exhaustion of being the person everyone relies on.

Life transitions

New motherhood, divorce, a career shift, an empty nest, or caring for a parent whose health is changing.

Who online therapy suits, and who it does not

Online therapy fits well if you are managing a full schedule, live somewhere with few local options, have young kids at home, deal with chronic illness or limited mobility, or simply find it easier to talk from a space where you already feel safe.

It is not the right fit if you are in acute crisis, need a higher level of care such as intensive outpatient or inpatient treatment, or do not have anywhere private to take a session. If that is where you are, I would rather tell you honestly and help you find the right resource than book you anyway. If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Insurance and cost

I accept several major plans through Alma, including Aetna, Cigna and Evernorth, Optum, Oscar Health, UMR, and UnitedHealthcare. Telehealth is covered the same way in-person sessions are under these plans, and Alma handles the billing so you are not fronting the full fee and hoping for reimbursement. Self-pay sessions are $135.

If you are not sure what your plan covers, message me before you book. Nobody should find out what therapy costs after their first session.

Where in Florida I work

I am licensed statewide, so you can be anywhere in Florida during our sessions. I am based in Kissimmee and work with clients across Central Florida and well beyond it:

and anywhere else in the state

EMDR over video

People are often surprised that EMDR works online, and it does. The bilateral stimulation that EMDR relies on can be done over video, and the research on virtual EMDR is encouraging. If an old experience is still shaping how safe you feel now, we can work with it directly rather than only talking around it.

What you need, and how to start

A private space, a device with a camera and microphone, and a stable connection. Sessions run on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, and the same confidentiality laws that cover in-person therapy cover telehealth.

Starting looks like this: book a free consultation, we talk for a few minutes about what brought you here, and if it feels like a fit we find a time. Evenings and weekends are available. If it does not feel like a fit, I will say so and point you somewhere better.

Frequently asked questions

Does online therapy actually work as well as in person?

For most concerns, yes. Research on telehealth for anxiety, depression, and trauma has repeatedly found outcomes comparable to in-person care. Many clients also find it easier to open up from their own space, and the consistency matters more than the setting. If you are in acute crisis or need a higher level of care, in-person or emergency services are the right fit instead.

Do I have to live in Orlando to work with you?

No. I am licensed in Florida, so you can be anywhere in the state during our sessions. I work with clients in Kissimmee, Orlando, St. Cloud, Winter Park, Celebration, Poinciana, Lake Nona, Tampa, Jacksonville, and small towns where the nearest therapist is an hour away.

What do I need for an online therapy session?

A private space, a device with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. That is it. No special software to buy. Many clients take sessions from a home office, a bedroom, or a parked car on a lunch break.

Is online therapy private and secure?

Yes. Sessions run on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. The same confidentiality laws that protect in-person therapy protect telehealth, with the same narrow exceptions around imminent danger, which I explain in the first session.

Do you take insurance for online therapy in Florida?

Yes. I accept several major plans through Alma, including Aetna, Cigna, Optum, Oscar Health, UMR, and UnitedHealthcare. Telehealth sessions are covered the same way in-person sessions are under these plans. If you are not sure about your coverage, reach out and I will help you check before you commit to anything.

Will it feel awkward on video?

Sometimes, for about ten minutes of the first session. Then it stops feeling like a video call and starts feeling like a conversation. Almost nobody mentions it again after session two.

How do I get started with online therapy in Florida?

Book a free consultation. We talk for a few minutes about what brought you here and whether we are a good fit, with no pressure to schedule. If it feels right, we find a time that works, including evenings and weekends.

Therapy that fits your actual life
